WGHS Varsity Volleyball Dominates Fayette County & Eagle’s Landing

On August 18th, 2026, Walnut Grove High School Varsity played Fayette County High School and Eagle’s Landing, gaining 2 more wins for the books.

Eagle’s Landing hosted Walnut Grove High for a non-conference match against themselves and Fayette County. The Warriors entered with high hopes and were hoping to win both matches. Varsity did extremely well, beating Fayette County by 15 in each set and coming back to win after being down a set during Eagle’s Landing’s game.

The Walnut Grove volleyball team prepared a lot for this game. Josie Knight (Junior) mentions that “we practice a lot and we move very fast paced at practice so we can get used to the repetition.” Josie has been on the varsity team since her freshman year and has experienced many high-pressure moments throughout her 3 years of high school volleyball. Many players handle these situations in different ways, but Josie’s way is dependent on her teammates. “Our team is really big on energy, so bringing each other up really helps.” 

The head coach on the Walnut Grove volleyball team, Coach Larimer, mentioned, “Practice. We had a good bit of practice this summer; we practice the mental part and the physical part, so just overall practice”. Coach Larimer is adamant about training to get prepared for their games. Being able to handle adversity shows commitment. Coach Larimer explains, “We have fought really hard; we’ve had a lot of close games. We’ve won some, we've lost some. But just to see the fight, they have the grit.”

Although the Varsity WGHS team lost the first set to Eagles Landing by only four points, they bounced back and won overall. Josie comments on how the team handles problems during games, "...when we get down by a few points, and we have to try to work our way back up.” Coach Larimer also has expectations for her team during gameplay, “Being consistent. My team being consistent.” They fight things like this by expecting the unexpected. Coach Larimer adds that part of the team's practice routine is to “Put them in situations like that in practice, so they’re kind of used to it, and being in more high-pressure situations gets you used to the next one also.”
In the second game they played, they did exceptionally well; WGHS won 25-5, 25-13. They came back after a difficult game and dominated the next one.

Next Monday, Walnut Grove hosts Prince Avenue Christian High School at 5:00 pm. Come out and support your fellow Warriors!
