The WGHS drama club performed the play “A Piece of my Heart” on Friday, September 29th at 7pm, and did two shows on Saturday, September 30th at 2 and 7 pm.

The show is based around the Vietnam war and the women that served in that war. This specific production was an emotional experience for some. Junior, Malachi Lovett witnessed the audience's reactions, “They were very emotional, like tears on the seats, horrible... I had to sit on one of the seats, it was wet.” He adds, “I think they really enjoyed it though, cause it was really nice. A lot of people said this was probably one of our best plays.”
In comparison to their last few shows, this one is more on the serious and more emotional aspects of life. Junior, Jazmyne Black says “It was definitely the most challenging play I’ve ever been a part of because it’s like so real for me.” She elaborates that “[her] grandfather fought in the Vietnam war, so it was definitely like really raw for [her].” Juniors, Hayden Ross and Ane’J Beers had their own opinions about the show. Hayden said, “I think we did really well, and I know a lot of people in the community have been emailing Mrs. Gibson saying how much it changed them.” Ane’J said, “I really liked the play. I think it relayed a good message, and it was very thoughtfully [performed].” She also says it seemed like the audience was moved by the message of the play, and many had tears running down their faces imagining what these women had to go through. Malachi says they made the sounds themselves instead of using audios from different sources. “So we’d clapped, a bunch of people clapped to do the applause, firecrackers, and an explosion.” Like Malachi, Hayden states her favorite seen was the therapy scene. She feels it moved a lot of people, and is a very important scene in the show. She also says, “You can’t see backstage, but all of the cast backstage is back there crying while watching that scene.” This play was obviously impactful on anyone who attend, I think most people can say that Ms. Gibson did an absolutely amazing job choosing this play. The students who were a part of this show had a big part in that as well and put on a great performance, we hope they continue to put on phenomenal shows such as this one.
