The term ‘Barbenheimer’ comes from a combination of Barbie and Oppenheimer movie titles that most people use to describe these two movies that came out in theaters during the summer on July 21, 2023.
Barbie Movie (Nevaeh): I saw The Barbie Movie on Aug 19, 2023 of 2023, The movie came out on July 21, 2023. Although I did see the movie three weeks after it was released, I was not disappointed. The Main character (‘Stereotypical Barbie’) was played by Margot Robbie, most famous for her role of Harley Quinn on ‘Suicide Squad’. The film was full of well known actors such as Ryan Gosling (Ken), Issa Rae (President Barbie), Will Ferrell (Mattel CEO), ect. This movie moves around the premise of barbie. She starts to have an existential crisis while also thinking about death. Her life is supposed to be ‘perfect’ all the time until things start to go wrong. ELLE shortly summarizes the movie in a simple way, “Margot Robbie’s Stereotypical Barbie ventures into the “Real World” to learn which hapless human has triggered her malfunctions.” The movie is 1 hour and 54 minutes long, which is shorter compared to Oppenheimer. Even though it is short, the movie does not feel rushed. I think that’s one of the main things that people worry about when it comes to shorter movies. However, this movie had an interesting plot, along with multiple layers to it. It had ‘Barbie World’ along with the Real World, both of the two different worlds colliding with each other added that real aspect. My favorite part about the movie is the messages that it sends. It touches on both the men and women side of actions and feelings. Connecting with real human emotions like depression, loneliness, unmotivation, etc. The comedy element of the movie adds to the light heartedness. Since Barbie was a big part of the toy industry for a long time, they had a lot of relatable scenes and takes. I rate the movie a 8.5/10. Mostly, because of the humor and the realism of the movie. I definitely recommend it and 100% would watch again. ![]()
Oppenheimer (Cheyenne):
I saw Oppenheimer on Thursday, July 27th of 2023, so pretty recently after it came out. I think the movie was great. It had lots of well known actors like Cillian Murphy, who played the lead role, Oppenheimer. He’s also most known for his role as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Actress Emily Blunt, she plays Oppenheimer’s wife, and Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, etc. The movie is about the creation of The Manhattan Project (the atomic bomb) that was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ending World War II. IMDb explains the movie pretty simply, “The story of American scientist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and his role in the development of the atomic bomb.” It is a three hour movie, where Oppenheimer is on trial for the building of the bomb. He talks about his college days, the people in his life that lead up to the events that put him in this situation, and the work it took to make the bomb. Although the movie is three hours long, I was entertained from beginning to end, and I never felt like it was drawn out or boring. However, some people might disagree. I’d say the creators of this movie did a really good job making the viewer feel his emotions, and I liked that there were multiple people retelling the story of the making of this bomb. I give the movie a 7.5/10 just because it’s long, but it’s an amazing movie and I would definitely recommend it and I will for sure watch it again. These two movies got good ratings from IMDb, Barbie got a 7.4/10, and Oppenheimer got an 8.6/10. Both movies have mixed reviews, some people think Barbie is too controversial because it talks about women’s rights and Oppenheimer is boring because it’s too long. Overall, we think these two movies were worth watching. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
