Cameria Reed is a senior at Walnut Grove High School. She has been on the Girls Varsity Basketball team for multiple years, and on January 12th, she achieved a high accomplishment. She scored her 1,000th point.  She has scored over 1,000 career points (1,110) and she is now the All-Time leading scorer for the Walnut Grove Varsity Girls team.

Cameria’s basketball career began at a relatively young age. She says, “I started playing basketball around… 5th grade rec [recreational basketball]. I think going into 6th grade. I think I was 10.”

She was “surprised” about her 1,000th point and said “it felt good, but I feel like I [haven’t] done nothing yet.” She may be hinting that she is not finished, and that there’s more in store.

When asked about what she did and does to improve and ameliorate her game, she states, “I tried to increase my game, my defense a little bit. I know my defense is a big part of my game, and it helps me with my offense, so I just try to work on that more often to help my team [get better].”

They stopped the game to recognize the accomplishment. It is not extremely common to see a player score 1,000 points in a career, hence why the game stopped to recognize it. To go along with the point total, she has 424 rebounds, 314 steals, and 212 assists in her career.

Reed currently sits at 1,110 points, as of February 5th, 2024, and the team still has the region tournament and hopefully the state tournament.

Good luck Cameria, and good luck Lady Warriors.

**VIRIDIAN News would also like to give a huge shoutout to Walnut Grove Varsity Boys starting point guard, Marcus Smith, for also passing 1,000 career points. He is only a junior, so much more is in store for the young man. Congratulations!
