In light of Walnut Grove High School’s DECA team winning in competition this week, let's get in the spirit of giving this December and put the WGHS DECA team back in the spotlight once more. DECA has something for just about everyone and they’re always looking to grow.
Walnut Grove’s DECA program saw many of its members place high during the regional competition. During a post-competition interview with DECA president, Victoria Raphael who was competing in Human Resources she said, “Walnut Grove has only had its DECA program for two years compared to other schools like Loganville DECA which is huge and has been around for much longer.” Not only is Walnut Grove’s program doing incredibly well for itself in such a short amount of time, but the students involved are doing astonishingly well for themselves too. Walnut Grove sophomore Dillon Newton competing in Marketing Communications told VIRIDIAN, “I decided to take marketing principles last year and afterwards I decided to take the second level class and I plan to complete the marketing pathway- DECA has allowed me to make a lot of new friends and become more social- If you're looking for a way to get more involved, I recommend joining DECA. It's a great club to join.” Even with all the hard work that these two brilliant young women put into their club, so many more help keep the club clubbing and their competitors competing. VIRIDIAN celebrates all of Walnut Grove's competing DECA members. Lets not forget to shine the spotlight over to some other WG DECA members like Harmony Schwab who was competing in Food Marketing, Mason Roland who competed in Automotive Services Marketing, and Bryce Mendez who placed third while competing in Business Finance. With so many intuitive minds to name, it's hard to congratulate them all. For anyone who wants to make a difference in the communities around them or someone who has that competitive drive to them but sports just isn't your kind of style, DECA could be a great place to start. When asked about the members of her club, Victoria told VIRIDIAN, “many of the members of Walnut Grove’s DECA club are very social but just about everyone who’s joined DECA has found something for themselves through the club.” If you're interested in learning more about DECA, Mrs. Smith can get you the answers you need.
