WGHS students voice their thoughts and opinions on the beef between the two artists, Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Both have immense support, but it seems Kendrick is on the winning side.
Brannon Johnson (Junior) says his take on the whole diss track ordeal saying, “I was rooting for Kendrick Lamar because he’s my favorite rapper…” He then continues saying his best and worst diss tracks, “Yuno Miles, I forgot about him. Yuno Miles had the best- he had no business being the beef, probably Rick Ross had the worst diss cause I don’t know, I wish I was him I really wanna own WingStop.” After he tells his predictions on how the beef will go and who got the worst hate out of everyone. He mentions, “I bet Kendrick Lamar will go back to his little cave that he goes to with his wife and kid, and then Drake will eventually find his daughter and make peace and watch Frozen together, he’ll read poetry with her, or whatever he said in 'meet the grahams'. Metro probably got the worst slander out of anyone he got told to make drums and then proceeded to do it.” He finishes his statement with a summary of what he knows happened within the rap beef. “So originally on Drake’s album For All The Dogs, J. Cole said “It’s the Big Three” [J. Cole, Drake, and Kendrick] and then Kendrick responded on Like That by Metro Boomin’ and Featuring Kendrick Lamar, said “It’s no big three, it’s just big me.” And then J.Cole responded first then took it back, and Drake responded with push-ups and he called out like everybody like Rick Ross and Kanye did come out with a remix which is kinda funny and he came out with another one, and Kendrick responded with 'Euphoria', which was cool, I like that song. With the three-beat switch-ups, he just called out Drake. And then Drake responded, and then Kendrick responded in like 30 minutes, and they’ve just been going back and forth.” Jerediah Thompson (Junior) originally was rooting for J.Cole, but he’s always thought Kendrick Lamar was one of the greatest artists of all time. He also says Rick Ross is getting the worst slander because he’s getting dissed by both sides and he keeps trying. In his opinion, the best diss track was ‘Euphoria’ by Kendrick, and the worst was ‘Taylormade’ by Drake, “It was terrible.” He thinks the beef is over because the last diss by Drake was definitely terrible, which makes him believe that Kendrick won’t respond. Lily Henderson (Junior) gives her opinions on the rivals, “I was always rooting for Kendrick because he has better music, and also because Drake is weird now…” Like most people, she agrees that Drake had the worst track. “It was just like how he let his kid freestyle on his own song and then Kendrick had the better one.” She says that Drake got the worst slander out of everyone, “Rightfully…” The whole beef was struck up when Kendrick Lamar had a feature on “Like That” with rapper Future and Metro Boomin. On the song he called out J. Cole and Drake saying he is not on the same level. The song was released on March 22, 2024, and since then the beef has ceased to die down, growing even.
