This week, Junior Karley Smith caught the eyes of her Head Coach, Nicole Greene, for being an extremely versatile player on the WGHS Girls Varsity Soccer team.

Smith has been on the Girls Varsity team since her freshman year, but she was first seen on a Warrior soccer team in eighth grade. This year, as a Junior, Smith continues to show off her improvement and her outstanding skills. Karley plays as a midfielder, but she originally took on the offensive position. Smith mentions that she has found her true position on the team: “In the beginning of my career, I would always play offense and I was good at it, but as I began to play travel, I had to make a sacrifice to try defense. After working on those skills, I've gotten to perfect them. I would say I'm a better skilled and confident player than I was my freshman year.”

Coach Greene praised Karley, “Her drive and determination to keep the other team from scoring mixed with her ability to control the ball and become an offensive threat at the same time is unparalleled,” which Karley shares this opinion with Coach Greene in relation to the importance of her role on the team.

With the skills that she is displaying now, it wouldn’t be a shock to see her receive a scholarship during her Senior season next year. Karley mentions “I would be honored to accept a scholarship for soccer… playing in college has always been a dream of mine.” Even on the chance that she doesn't obtain a scholarship, she would always have the memories of the Walnut Grove Girls Varsity soccer team to fall back on.
