Student athlete, Kaylee Fagan, steps into her second year as a girl’s golf member for the WGHS Golf team with new and improved skills.

Fagan was inspired to join the golf team after playing with her best friend. She decided to play with her best friend last year, and she enjoyed it a lot. After some time and practice with the team, she learned to get better with her techniques.

Kaylee mentions that her skill wasn’t always there, as she stated during her first year that her scores were “terrible, I honestly could barely hit the ball [just] two feet in front of me. I was nervous a lot and I would always psyche myself out. Now, this year, it’s gotten a lot better.” She plans to keep this up due to the fact that she’s not cheering for basketball this year, so she wants to devote even more time to golf training.

Golf is a specific skill-based game. When Fagan was asked what she wanted to work on the most, Fagan stated, “My short game. If I were to get in bunkers, [being able to] get out of them, getting onto the green, [and] putting. My putting game is not very strong.” If the team doesn’t have enough in-school practice time, Fagan brings up that they could go out on their own to practice more.

Kaylee enjoys golf and wants to devote as much time into it as possible and has looked at schools such as Georgia Southern, Appalachian State University, and Truett McConnell. Fagan said, “I did a camp [at Truett] over the summer; the coach is really nice and I enjoy him. Their golfers are really good, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to [make it].” Kaylee then expresses that she “will continue to practice and work on [her] game” to broaden her chances of making the collegiate level team.
