WGHS students give a hot take about their fashion as well as fashion trends they don’t agree with.
Dawit Gidey (Junior) says “I like baggy clothes, and it’s ‘cause it’s just more comfy, and it’s [a] nice type of clothing… I just keep it simple. It fits me.” He then goes to say that he just buys clothes he thinks are nice and tries to match them. If not, then he finds inspiration from celebrities, such as premier league players like, “They’re all from [the] UK, Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappe, Neymar, all those people. They usually wear baggy clothes.” His style has changed a lot since freshman year, since he’s not from the US, he didn’t know what trends were going around, or what looked nice. “I wasn’t really a fashion person and since sophomore year I started, like, picking up more.” He states. “I get [them] from like, Fashion Nova, Shein, Boohoo, Marshalls and Zara… most of my clothes are under 50-60 dollars” he continued. He doesn’t like Uggs, but he’s cool with any trend. His favorite brand is balenciaga, but mostly their shoes. “They got some good clothing too, like they got some good sweats and hoodies… or chrome heart, they got the best jeans.” He further explained.
Like Dawit’s style choice, Iyana Spencer (Junior) has similar taste in clothing. “I like to wear comfortable, baggy clothes… I like to be comfortable, and I don't like revealing stuff,” she adds.
Her inspiration came from listening to Opium, a music label featuring music artists, Ken Carson and Playboy Carti. She used to wear skinny jeans and tank tops, and now her style is completely different. Shopping for clothes for her is spontaneous, “Forever 21, online, whatever I see, I'll just get it…I go thrift shopping, whatever says “thrift store”, I'll go.” Her least favorite brand is Adidas, she wears it sometimes but she doesn’t like the shoes. She has other strong opinions about other fashion trends. “Jeans and boots are just not it” She continues, “Like I've never seen that in real life until i came here[to WGHS], it throws me off” However, she has a new favorite that draws her attention, “I’m getting into a new balance again.”
Maggie Ezzell (Junior) likes to wear LuluLemon, Aerie, “ Just like cute girly stuff, I'm a very girly girl, I like pink.” She states. She says her style is very basic, like every other girl in America. She says, “You can catch me in leggings and a crewneck every other day, in jeans and a little pink ruffle top, you know.”
Maggie gets her inspiration from Pinterest and things she sees her friends wearing, “I used to be kinda weird and used to wear kinda weird stuff, like Gymboree and like you know… but like now, I just really evolved, I really evolved into my style you know.” She isn’t really a skinny jeans girl anymore, she likes to wear fun, bright colors. She hates to see skirts over leggings, or leggings under shorts either. She also added “Just because it's LuluLemon, doesn’t mean it matches.” These students didn’t disappoint with their style selections, along with their very strong opinions it makes for a great guide for others.
