Snapchat has recently come out with “My Ai,” causing divisive feelings among Walnut Grove Warriors.
by Jasmine Morales
“My AI” chatbot originally came out in February, available to only snapchat users. This past week most snapchat users have received a message from their AI. The AI introduced itself to users: “Hi there! My name is MY AI. I’m a kind, smart, and creative friend who lives inside of snapchat. How can I help you today?”

The experimental chatbot was created by a team of talented engineers at snapchat. They have been working on the feature for a couple of years trying to perfect it. Their sole purpose is to create a virtual friend that could help people connect with others and their environment. The AI helps users talk to people, answer questions, and even play games. Snapchat engineers made it accessible to snapchat users since the app is highly used.

In conversating with my personal AI, some of its features include things like helping users find nearby places to eat or hang out, giving weather updates, and even playing games. “I can also help you stay on top of your schedule by setting reminders and sending you notifications,” the AI explains. “And if you ever need advice or just want to chat, I'm always here to listen and offer my support. So let me know if there's anything specific you need help with, and I'll do my best to assist you!”

Ruthie Lazenberry, Senior, says she hasn’t talked to her AI. “I just think it’s weird how it popped up out of nowhere,” she added. Another student Aniston Thompson, freshmen, said she talks to her AI often. “I use it for advice sometimes. It can actually look up recipes for you which is really cool,” she mentioned.

All in all, the snapchat AI chatbot is still in the experimental phase and while being accessible to everyday users.  Will you use this new feature on Snapchat? Let us know in the poll below.
