Just Dropped - February Music Review

During February of 2023, popular music artists Young Nudy, Yeat, and Dierks Bentley released their long awaited albums. Walnut Grove students share their thoughts about these albums.

During February of 2023, popular music artists Young Nudy, Yeat, and Dierks Bentley released their long awaited albums. Walnut Grove students share their thoughts about these albums.

Young Nudy’s album Gumbo was released on February 28, 2023. The album has 13 songs, including featured artists with Key Glock, and 21 Savage. Sophomore Kayden Miller, shares his opinion on the album, “In my opinion the album was at least a 9/10.” He also says, “I like the beats on the album and the things he says.”

Young Nudy has been making music since 2014 and has 11 albums. When asked why Miller likes this kind of music he states “It gets me hype and that’s the best type of genre” and “he’s also from Atlanta so I really like Young Nudy.” 

Miller says his favorite song from the album is "Nothing To Do" and further explained why he liked it was because “Everything he was saying, it was going together in his flow.”  Miller recommends the album “to people who listen to this type of music.”

Yeat’s new album AfterLyfe was released on February 24, 2023, it has 22 songs. The features consist of YoungBoy Never Broke Again also known as NBA Youngboy, Kranky Kanky, and Luh geeky.

Sophomore Paris Wright, also gives why she likes this kind of music, “I just like it, like,it’s Yeat!” She also talks about the features on the songs, “Sometimes features just make the song.” and continues to add that  “[her]  favorite feature is Kranky Kranky.” 

Wright explains why she likes the album, and says “[If] you’re having a bad day, you put on Yeat and it hypes you up.”  

Senior Caiden Eskandari was not as pleased with Yeat’s recent work. Caiden explained that he was a fan, but this album did not live up to his expectations. He says that “this album wasn’t as good as his older stuff, this album was just over-hyped.”

Senior Maxwell Suarez proudly exclaimed that “Yeat’s album was the best album of 2023.”

​Dierks Bentley’s album, Gold & Gravel, was released on February 24, 2023. It has 14 songs on it, and the features contain Ashley McBryde, Billy Strings, and other country musicians. Since first releasing an album in 2003 (Don’t Leave me in love,) Bentley has released 8 other albums, Gold and Gravel being his 10th. 

Junior Kaylee Fagan says that “the album lived up to its expectations, and [she] really liked the sound of it, and it just put [her] in a really good mood.” Kaylee explained that she enjoyed Bentley’s previous album Black therefore “[she]  had to listen to his newest record.”  

 Be sure to look out for other artists such as Miley Cyrus (Endless Summer Vacation), Luke Combs (Gettin’ Old), 6lack (Since I have a lover),  Lana Del Rey, (Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd) releasing albums throughout the month of March. Listed on Billboard.com
