In honor of Halloween, Netflix has added many horror movies to the collection. Most importantly, they added the newest horror movies that I never got to watch, so I was excited when I saw they were released. The fist movie that I watched was US, a psychological horror that is very mind boggling to say the least.
In the beginning of the film, set in the year 1986 on the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk. The main character Adelaide Thomas who was a young child at the time, wandered off and got lost in a mirror maze “fun house”. Which to me doesn’t seem fun especially at night. Then the power goes out and she is met with a girl that looks exactly like her except, it wasn’t a mirror but a doppelganger. The scene cuts off with her eyes and mouth widening in shock. After this part I was really shaken and did not know how strange the movie would get. After the introduction to this movie, it goes right back into a normal family scene, but this time it is Adelaide all grown up with her own family, a son, daughter and her husband Gabe. It begins with them in the car heading to their vacation home to spend a day with their close friends at the beach. Adelaide is very uncomfortable at the fact they are going to this beach because of her accident when she was young, but they end up going anyway. When they arrive Adelaide notices signs and coincidences that make her on edge and paranoid for her family. An example of a sign was a dead homeless man who she thought looked familiar to the night of her accident. This part really stuck out to me only because you don’t really know why she is paranoid. You can sense that something wrong happened that night but it doesn’t tell you until Adelaide and her family come home from the beach trip and were preparing for bed when a family appeared in their driveway. Abruptly the creepy family comes into the house and explains they are the tethered and came to take what they never had which was a real life. The family has to fight for their lives and then eventually escape when realizing this was happening all over the U.S. At this point in the movie I was very confused at what was going on because there is a very huge plot twist I wasn’t expecting. When the non tethered family escapes, they end up at the same Santa Monica pier from the beginning and there was half of the tethered family ready to kill. When it gets to the part where the two mothers meet again, to me is the scariest part only because there is so much tension between the two. The tethered Adelaide tells the story of the beginning of the movie and what happened, but you find out that the real Adelaide wasn’t the same since the mirror maze because the tethered took Adelaide to her spot in the tether and lived as Adelaide for the rest of time. After this ending I could not believe the plot twist and how I didn’t realize during the movie that the mom (Adelaide) wasn’t the same woman from the beginning. This movie is very good but not too scary because of the comedic timing. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
