The Walnut Grove students on the entertainment staff, Nevaeh and Grayson, give their opinions on a few fan favorites that have hit the top charts this year Kill Bill, Boys a Liar Pt. 2 featuring Ice Spice, and Cruel Summer released this year.

Nevaeh:
The Album SOS By Sza featuring the song “Kill Bill” is popular in the music industry. The song is catchy, it speaks to my ears in all the right ways. The melody is slower compared to her other projects, which I enjoy. Even though the melody is slower, the song isn’t really sad. 

In my own interpretation, the song talks about her selfishness and she explains how she doesn't want to see her partner with anyone else and saying that she’d “Rather be in jail than alone”. Lyrically the song has its own story in a way that captures her passion of not wanting to be alone, by saying “If I can't have you, no one should…”

Towards the end, she says that she did all of this for love and she did it all so they could be together. Others might think that she sounds crazy, but I think that she really captures how some of us feel in certain situations regarding a relationship. Nonetheless, I completely understand the message behind this song. The album came out December 9th, 2022. Despite the song being a few months older, it still manages to rack up listeners today. I would rate this song a 8/10. It has a good rhythm and flow along with it being very catchy. I most definitely recommend this song for a listen. 


Grayson:
The hit single “Boys a Liar” by PinkPanthress is a song made in 2022 that was striving throughout the media and still has been for quite some time. Then Ice Spice, a rapper, got popular and a Part 2 of “Boys a Liar '' was made featuring the new popular rapper. This one song hit number 1 on top 100 songs and was trending on apps like TikTok and Instagram. (via BillBoard.com)

I have personally heard this song a thousand times, on social media, in the car, even in stores. I know every word and I have never even sat down and really listened to the whole song, but that's because of how popular this song really is. Also with music nowadays I can see a pattern with lyrics about relationships. For example in the song Ice Spice talks about guys being sneaky and lying, which a lot of people can relate to because of today’s generations differences, and for that I think is the reason why this song is so loved and catchy.

My opinion of the song is that it is well produced, well written, and relatable, especially because it is a part two with Ice Spice, so it created a familiar but new feeling. If I had to rate it I would rate it a 8.5/10 - only that high because of the Ice Spice feature.

Nevaeh:
The Album “Lover” by Taylor Swift featuring the song “Cruel Summer” has been pretty popular recently. The Album was released August 23rd, 2019. Even though the album is a few years old, songs within the album are still being listened to today. The song is very catchy, along with the softer tones of the lyrics. This is the type of music that I would listen to during a study session or even play in the car with friends. The ability to get lost in the lyrics really is shown in this song. Something about it just hits differently for me. I give this song a 9.5/10. It hit all the right spots for me. I 100% recommend a listen.  

The music industry is definitely making marks in this generation. It seems the songs all have similar vibes, and appeal to the feminine audience.
