Op/Ed: MLB The Show 24: Is It Still Worth It After A Month?

Game Review (Pros and Cons)
Many may say, “It isn’t worth the $70- you’re wasting money on the same copy of the same game.” And to be fair, I agree with them. It is just as easy to download or make rosters on a previous MLB The Show and play as the new teams. However, it won’t have as many new players, like Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Jung Hoo Lee. But, I still think the rosters would be awesome. If you think about it, it’s a really good way to get people to buy the game. People want to play with new players on their new rosters, like Shohei Ohtani on the Dodgers, that they’ll buy the game again, and yes, I am a victim of this. 

On the other hand, it is really cool to see new things added to MLB The Show 24. A big feature is adding women players to the game. In MLBTS24, you can now be a male or female when creating a player for the “Road to the Show” portion of the game. 

It’s very hard to judge a game that is semi-repeated every year, but it’s still good to have a new game to play.

​Another positive of the game is the graphics look much better than years before, in my personal opinion. Many may disagree with me, but I like them. Especially in “Road to the Show.” The scorecard looks really good, especially when you get the MLB part. But, after you make it to the Big Leagues and play a couple seasons, it kind of gets a little old.

A Little Backstory
MLB The Show is a video game series that has been running since 2006 with MLB’s release of MLB 06: The Show (Wikipedia). The reviews on the game were relatively good. On Metascore, they received an 83 Metascore, and a 7.3 User Score. The series has been running ever since. 

However, since it was owned by San Diego Studios, it was only available on PlayStation Consoles. Until 2021.

On April 20th, 2021, MLB The Show 21 released and was available on Xbox One and Xbox Series S and X. For the first time, MLB The Show fans can enjoy the game on both platforms.

Final Opinion
For the overall and final opinion, I do think it is worth buying. I think it is a great game every year with new features in different modes. It is a great game and I think it will continually get better as the years go on. So, spend your money, don’t spend your money, I can’t force you to do it, but I did and it was worth it.
