Last week all sophomores at Walnut Grove High School took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, more commonly known as the PSAT.
by Brayden Downey
Last week Students of Walnut Grove High School came in on the morning of the 26th ready to test. All sophomores were automatically signed up to take the PSAT while for upperclassmen it was available by request.
As 7:30am rolled around, Assistant Principal Coach Cockerm, proctors, and students had settled in for the three hour and forty-five minute test ahead of them. At the start time of the test Walnut Grove had a count of more than four-hundred students testing that morning. The PSAT is an important test for many college-bound high school students as many colleges and other educational institutions ask for (or even require) SAT or ACT test scores, another perk of taking the test is, with a high enough score, students become eligible to receive scholarships. Overall, the PSAT is designed to prepare students for the SAT and gauge overall college readiness. It's also the qualifying exam for National Merit Scholarships as mentioned above.
