Walnut Grove Softball gets ready to celebrate their annual senior night on October 10th at 5:30PM. Although Walnut Grove has always had a large number of senior softball players, they have exceeded these norms for the ‘23-’24 season, with a total of 11 outstanding seniors. With the group being so large this year, this senior night looks to be one for the books.
With senior night coming up and many of the girls realizing their high school years are coming to an end, it has opened their “gloves” to the fact that high school is only the start. Meeshun Taylor (12) says, “It feels good, but it’s also kind of sad because I’m about to leave with it being my last year.” Alyssa Neidigh (12) adds to this, “It’s overwhelming because I’ve been looking forward to being a senior for years, but now it’s sad because it's almost over.”
Both players have represented WGHS since their freshman year, both formally playing at Youth Middle School, where they learned many of the skills they carried over to The Grove. The athletes had some expectations of how their senior season would go. “I mean I was kind of expecting us to have a really good season- we’ve had a good season, it's just not as good as I thought it would be,” Alyssa elaborates. Meeshun adds to this, “I’m not saying it’s going the way I wanted it to, but... We’re making it back though.” Although the team hasn’t gotten off to the start they all anticipated, the athletes are very optimistic that they will be able to pull through for a win at the ‘23-’24 senior night. Alyssa continues, “I know we are going to beat the crap out of Seckinger since we have to have our little revenge tour, and it's our senior night.” Meeshun informs us on how they plan to win, “We’re going to put up a battle, and hopefully come out with a win. A win is what we need to make it to the playoffs.”
This game looks to be one for the books, and any Walnut Grove softball fan knows this isn’t the game to miss. Come and support our 11 softball seniors as they celebrate their senior night on October 10, against Seckinger High School. Senior activities will begin at 5:30 pm.
