Ian Watson (previously Ian McKenzie), who got a perfect score on JROTC physical fitness test, discusses the challenges and outcomes it came with.
by Emma Dickens
JROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps), is an off campus activity that prepares students for leadership roles. It helps students be aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as an American citizen. There are thousands of students that interact with the JROTC program, including 10th grader, Ian Watson.
Ian has worked extremely hard to get his perfect score in JROTC. All his hard work paid off in the end. Ian says, “I was training pretty hard up until that point. We do the pre assessment at the start of the year, so I was training all summer just doing what I could with cross country and just working out at home. This way I could get my times down, and my numbers up.” Ian says he did 93 pushups in under a minute, which is unbelievable! He was very proud with the results it came with. He states, “I felt very, very accomplished! There were a couple other people that were runners up. We had two 98’s, but nobody else could get a perfect score. I felt so proud of myself that I could finally get myself to this position. That's why I'm going back next year.” Ian is one of the many students who loves being in JROTC. He enjoys all the hard work and seeing the progress he has made throughout the semester. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
