Track season is officially underway as they held their first home meet of the season, Thursday, March 2nd. The meet began at roughly 4:30 in the afternoon with North Oconee High School, Raden High School, and South Gwinnett appearing for the event.
While it did rain during parts of the event, no injuries occurred because of it. Fortunately, no events had to be postponed either, making it a successful night of track and field. Walnut Grove participated in several events, including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 100m Hurdle, and 300m Hurdle. Girls and Boys of each event did well, and several new PRs were obtained for the runners of Walnut Grove. Sprinters
The first event that took place was the Girls 100m Hurdles. Rayanna Williams, who placed second in the event but first for WGHS, scored a new PR of 0:21.04. “I was nervous at first, because there were only two of us running,” She explained. “But throughout [the meet] I had enough courage to like jump over the hurdles cause usually at practice I’ll stop. I liked my score but I feel that I could’ve done better”
For the boys 110m Hurdles, Noah Herring, who placed fourth in the event but first for WGHS, scored a new PR of 0:19.72. “While I was running I felt pretty confident that I could beat the goal Ms. Doolittle set,” Noah commented. “I felt like I did a good job.”

At the end of it I’m always excited and I always know what I did wrong and what I can do better on and I think it’s something that helps me get better in the future and pushes me because I always want to do better.”
Brent Chay placed first in the boys 200m event for WGHS, with a personal record of 0:23.93. “I came off the block good and I feel like I just exploded off the curve,” He admitted. “I knew it was a good time cause when I crossed it was still on 23 seconds and I was just having a good time.” “I did kind of mess up,” Rayanna Williams admitted. “I gotta work on my form and the way I jump but through everything I felt good about it.” She placed seventh in the girls 300m Hurdle with a run time of 0:59.08, and was the school's only female runner for our school.
