TRIBE PBIS: First Block Wars/Bands

This March 2024, WGHS has decided to bring back the 1st Block Wars to help decline our absences and tardies in school.

Attendance Competition:
This year our school has had an excess number of students being absent/tardy which is a huge hit to their grades and how much they can learn. This led WGHS to implementing the class wars which should help to incentivize students to get to class. Tenth grader Kyler Folds says, “I think it starts a lot of competition, makes them compete, and starts a rivalry between grades.” This rivalry pits each grade against the others to try and outdo each other with getting to class on time.

Tardy/Absence policy:
The tardy and absence policy of WGHS is strict and doesn’t allow for many gaps in schedules which may seem like a big issue for students, yet if you're never in class you won't learn anything. Twelfth grader Abby Parker isn't sure that the tardy policy encourages attendance, “People aren't going to come because of the tardy situation. Because if you have too many tardies, you have to go to silent lunch and [ you would] just skip instead.” In her opinion, this is a big issue because we need to find a way to keep the students at school without punishing students who come to school.

Wristbands:
The Wristbands are a new thing WGHS has brought on to help fund our TRIBE rewards. The purpose of the wristbands is so we could bring bigger and incentive rewards. Mrs. Smith, who is in charge of the wristband fundraiser said, “We would love to open the TBIBE trading store again, but our funds are very low and we need your help. We have traditionally sold popcorn, but after feedback, [we] decided to promote wristbands. If every student buys a wristband, we will meet our goal!” 

If you are interested in buying a wristband the price will be only 10 dollars. You can buy the wristbands on GoFan or in the TRIBE trading post located in the cafeteria on Tuesday and Thursday. The benefits are:

• Hat days from Friday 3/22-3/28
  
• Automatic entry into a $100 gift card raffle
• Free entry to the student basketball game on Friday 3/28 during 4th block

This March, students will have the opportunity to compete with other classes and have better attendance, as well. They will also have the chance to get wristbands which have benefits students will not want to miss.
