Walnut Grove and North Oconee clashed this past week. North Oconee has a respectable soccer team with both the boys and girls. Walnut Grove had high expectations, but both of our teams fell just short of victory.

Our boys team came close to beating North Oconee, with a score of 3-2. They started off the game fast on their feet. However, their opponents were keeping up. Walnut Grove had managed to score one goal and North Oconee scored one as well, making halftime 1-1. According to Aidan Bird, “We started good and tied up the first half, but both of us were on equal footing, so it was hard to get out of midfield.” During the second half, North Oconee had scored two quick goals, securing their victory. After the game, Aidan shared, “You know it sucks to lose, especially against a team that you were able to beat, but we have a couple more games left to win.” Girls Varsity Our girls team fought just as hard, but lost in an upsetting way. The final score was 8-0 in North Oconee’s favor. Walnut Grove’s team was working well as a team, but North Oconee has very distinguished players when it comes to soccer. Zoe Moser, a sophomore on varsity, stated, “We were working really well as a team and striking together, but North Oconee had some really good work on offense and defense.” Overall, both teams played excellent in their own teamwork and tried hard. Not every game will be won, but as long as something is learned from it, it is okay. Walnut Grove’s Soccer programs will continue to train and get better through to the end of the season.
