POV on the season wrap-up and the 73-45 State Tourney blowout

​On February 22nd, 2023, The Warriors varsity basketball team took on Southeast Whitfield, after a series of regional games leading up to this point. 

Marcus Smith and JT Rodgers said they are happy about how the season turned out regardless of how the State tournament continues, with Rodgers adding his favorite part of the season was “winning the Region Championship because it was the first time we ever won it.” 

State Playoffs

​The team had a blowout score of 73 - 45 at the end of the first game in the State Playoffs, after being in the lead by only 5 points at halftime.

Player Marcus Smith spoke about how the gap in points came to be, “Our energy changed, and we focused more on defense.” JT Rodgers also added, “We just had a talk [with Coach Witherspoon] about what this was, what we wanted, and we knew if we couldn’t do that, we wouldn’t win.” He went on to say that Coach “Spoon” also mentioned, “He told us to lock in and if this is what we wanted, we have to play for it.”

Coming up next for the Warriors, they have a home game. On Saturday they are playing Dekalb County’s Pace Academy, a private school. Rodgers was asked about prep work for Saturday and stated, “We have been practicing, going over [drills], and our mindset has been focusing on the game.” Smith added, “I’m ready to play on Saturday.”
