Last Friday, August 16, the WGHS student section came in with full excitement as they got ready to cheer on the Warriors at the first game of the season.
The Warriors started out the ‘23-’24 football season last Friday, August 16th. The Grove took on Jasper county, and came in with a close loss at 18-20. Although this was a hard hit, the student section still supported our team, and stuck it out till the end. Walnut Grove students pride themselves on having an eventful and supportive student section. This was shown Friday night, when students came together before the game to have a tailgate in the parking lot and hype themselves up before the game started. “I helped grill before the game, I brought an apron, chef's hat, and made sure to bring friends,” Sawyer Bradford (12) exclaimed. After the tailgate, the students eagerly headed their way into the stadium and into the designated WG Student Section area.
Before most games start, students always “get spirited” to make sure that they are dressed appropriately for the theme. “I bring paint at all times, usually some glitter hairspray if I'm feeling extra festive, and my friends cause we always show up and show out,” Shannon Hayes (11) explains what she needs to liven up the student section.
Rebecca Jenkins (12) adds to this, “I bring myself and cones to yell into. I basically dress out and I bring paint, baby powder, really anything to get the crowd alive.” Walnut Grove is notorious for playing games that keep you on your toes, which is just one of the many reasons to show up and cheer on the team. “I like to watch the game and it gets more hype. Everyone comes together to watch the game which makes it better,” Rebecca Jenkins (12) explains. Because the student section can get so riled up and loud, we have to wonder what the Walnut Grove Football Team truly thinks about the student section. “All of the screaming makes the atmosphere louder and more exciting. Although it's hard to hear them once we get locked in,” Drew Adams (12). “It's always nice to have someone cheering you on,” Josh Peart (12). Many players stepped forward to tell us really how much the student section means to them, and how much the student section motivates them. Although the team did play hard this week, they exclaimed their readiness for next week's game, “I was mad because we lost, but it's small mistakes and I know we can get them fixed for next game, ” Jackson Andrews (10). The Warriors will need you next week to help them bring home the victory. Come join the student section next Friday, September 1 at 7:30PM, and cheer on the Warriors as they take on Chattahoochee County. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
