Warriors Basketball Win Against LCA Lions

WGHS Boys Varsity basketball team wins against LCA Lions on January 20th, 2024 at Walnut Grove High School.

The Warrior Boys Varsity Basketball team played and won against LCA. The game was a close battle against LCA with a score of 51 and the Warriors with a score of 52. The win on the 20th brings the Warrior’s overall win-loss record to 11-10 and leaves their overall state ranking at 174. (All stats provided via MaxPreps)

Cameron Selman, a Junior at WGHS, says, “Just to do my job and make sure that I play really good defense, and I'm good with my offense,” as he talks about what strategies he believes led him and his team to the win against LCA. “There was nobody in the gym, so we had to generate our own energy, but when we generate our own energy, it feels a lot better because we are feeding off of each other’s [energy]. But overall it just makes the atmosphere among us more energetic.” This statement leaves no question as to how the warriors were able to defeat the Lions Saturday. 

Fellow teammate and starting point guard, Marcus Smith, feels as if he helped his team by using his communication skills. “Talking on defense and playing together as a team helped us a lot.” It seems that all of that communication with his teammates truly did help the Warriors pull out a great win against LCA.

The Girls Varsity Team also earned a win against LCA. The game was played on Saturday January 20th also at Walnut Grove. The Warriors ended up earning 56 points while LCA ended with 36 points. Because of this win, the Lady Warriors now have a win-loss ratio of 11-7. (All stats provided via MaxPreps) 

With these two wins under the Warriors belt; fans can only hope they can continue this streak. And with everyone’s love, support, and energy, they will definitely earn their spot in the playoffs. Coach Dennis Whitely stated that they overcame the same lull in their season last year, and he has high hopes for their playoff run.
