On Monday April 27th, 2023, WGHS golf players played in their last golf match of the season. The team played up against different schools in the Area 3-AAAA region, and it was an all day event.

Senior Golf Player Dana Davis recalls, before the match, “We were prepared by going to get biscuits before as a team.” On the other hand Senior Cody Underwood prepared by getting enough sleep the night before.

During the tournament, only a certain number of players from both boys and girls could play. Out of 14 boys only 6 were chosen and then 5 out of 9 played. Team members recall getting the opportunity to practice on the course they were playing the Friday before, and getting a feeling for the course.

Throughout the match, freshman Addison Simpson looks back on her “first time ever walking 18 holes, which takes like seven hours, which is a lot of golf at once.” She finished a score of 116 and placed 33 out of 49. Sophomore Abram Tisdale states that the match went mostly as expected, but “We're not at the point yet to where we're a golf school. But for kids that don't play that often and that just kind of come and mess around, we did pretty good.”

With the game of golf, it just doesn’t come easily. Junior Kaylee Fagan reminisces that tasks she does to prepare for any match is to go to the range and have her uncle help her out with her game.

Sophomore Luke Blanchard states that tasks he needs to improve on is his physical and mental game when it comes to golf. Cody Underwood stated, “This season was pretty good. It was probably the best season since I've been here. We only lost one match but the area didn’t go the way we wanted.”
