WGHS Reaction to Wonka

The movie Wonka came out December 15, 2023. The students of Walnut Grove, Jordin Galvan (Freshman), Alyssa Balwin (Freshman) and Lily Penn (Junior) give their thoughts and opinions on the movie.​

​The movie Wonka came out December 15, 2023. The students of Walnut Grove, Jordin Galvan (Freshman), Alyssa Balwin (Freshman) and Lily Penn (Junior) give their thoughts and opinions on the movie. 

Jordin explained a little bit about the movie, “So basically it starts out how Wonka wants to sell chocolate and he can’t. He gets arrested and put away, and he was scammed and then his chocolate becomes the best.” She continues and says that the third one is her favorite. She says she liked the oompa loompa, “I liked the way he looked and talked.”

She states, “I feel really passionate about him and his songs because he’s a very creative and artistic and fun person... The songs, that was the best part of the whole movie, and [some bad things were] when anyone else but Wonka was on the camera. Because I just wanted to hear him sing.” She says that Timothee was a perfect pick for Wonka because he’s so petite and funny. She ends by giving the movie a rating of 10/10.

​Alyssa says she likes the first movie because the oompa loompas look the funniest. She also says she really likes the third one because it’s about how he became Wonka instead of telling the same story of Charlie and his Grandpa finding the golden ticket and going to the factory. “It’s fresh, and I like it.”

Alyssa says a favorite part of hers was the cop because he got fat, and she had nothing to say about it. “[There] was nothing bad, I liked everything in the movie.” Like Jordin, she also gives it a 10/10. She believes he’s a good fit “because he’s hot.”

Lily says she likes the original because that’s the one that everyone knows. Giving a summary of the movie she states, “So basically him and his mom are bonding over chocolate, and he promises her that he's gonna go be a chocolate person... He goes to the city where chocolate is getting really popular, but basically there is this evil man who runs this evil hotel, and they try to trap him there and work there forever so he can't [make] the chocolate.”

Lily also thinks Timothee is a good fit for the role because he's a theater kid, but she didn’t like the rest of the cast because they weren’t as good looking as Timothee. She explains that she likes the songs.

There are now 3 different movies about Wonka, the first and second movie had some of the same qualities focusing on the actual chocolate factory, but the latest one is more focused on the building and the story of the chocolate factory and the origins of Wonka.
