WGHS social media pages help students understand what's going on in the school, and give tips to be a successful student.
by Dani Young and Natonya Clinger
Walnut Grove High School has many social media accounts: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok. It's not just the school that has the accounts- it is the clubs, electives and teachers.
One way these accounts can benefit the school is through the TikTok account @walnutgrove_tribe the “official account for WGHS tribe.” They make videos and give us all the new information about our school, like school games, upcoming raffles, dances, clubs, extracurriculars. The school knows we need this information, but it delivers in a way everyone would enjoy: “through our phones”. Walnut Grove's marketing class has begun using social media as a teaching tool. The teams were given a topic to make an account over like Climate Change or Stop Bullying. These accounts have not only been a success for the class but have also improved student involvement with the community around them inside and out of school. Students in Coach Smith’s marketing class all work together to run the Walnut Grove TRIBE account. Jamie Therrian, a junior here at Walnut Grove, is one of the students that helps run the TikTok account. She explained the account was started because “[they] wanted it to bring more people to know TRIBE, along with abiding by the TRIBE motto.” Not only is the account used to promote the TRIBE motto, it is also “[enjoyable] running the account because [they] make fun and entertaining ways to follow TRIBE.” Another junior here at Walnut Grove, Allison Lofton added, “We really wanted to help promote the school store, and any Walnut Grove fundraisers.” Both Jamie and Allison mentioned that Anna Scroggins and Karis Griswell also help run it. An Instagram account known as @thegrovestool is an account run by AJ Chafin and some of his friends. The account is mostly dedicated to all of the sports here at Walnut Grove, and it is also used to “respectfully, post stuff about people and starting [good-natured] beef with other schools for no reason,” AJ explained. He later added to clarify, “it’s all just for fun, and there are no hard feelings.” The account was started from previous graduates of Walnut Grove, who passed it down to AJ and his friends. “We wanted to make it better this year because it’s been kind of lame in the past,” AJ explained. With all the funny posts the account makes, it gets students excited and pumped for the school year! An outside account related to Walnut Grove named @wghs.almost.friday is just a funny and entertaining Instagram account that posts at most 10 random pictures every Thursday, sent by WG students, to get WG students excited for Friday. The account is run by freshmen, Sebastian Duke and Eligh Matthews. The boys got the idea to make the account because “there was another account called @fannin_almost_friday from Fannin County High School,” Sebastian explained. “My friend ran that one, and that’s what pretty much inspired us to make the account here.” Both Eligh and Sebastian exclaimed that they “love running the account, but it can be both stressful and time-consuming.” Eligh later stated, “in all honesty, it’s somewhat thrilling to see what pictures people send in.” All of Walnut Grove's social media accounts are used to give the school the news we need in a timely and funny way. The school continues to do this for as long as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook are popular. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
