On Thursday May 5th, 2024, Walnut Grove High School held a Student Body Volleyball Tournament.  There were two divisions: Amateur and Pro League. The leagues did not play each other, they only played teams in each division (EX: The Rack would not play Air Traffic Control)

Ridgeway
The team who won the Amateur League was Ridgeway.
  • Bailey Brown (9th)
  • Julia (Grace) Weilbrenner (9th)
  • Bradin (Sully) Gouge (10th, Captain)
  • Andrew Caraway (10th)
  • Ethan Kennedy (10th)
  • Ian Watson (10th)
The team struggled in pool play, but turned it up in the tournament. Congratulations, Ridgeway!

From a fan’s view, Emery Brown (10), did not have much confidence. When asked if he thought Ridgeway would win it all, he said, “No, not at all. In the beginning I was not expecting that at all. Matthew Coole created a fail highlight reel, but then he left when y’all [Ridgeway] started doing good.”

He also thought that there were a couple highlights. “I really liked [Drew's] ultimate, epic spike. There was like a moment of silence in that gym when it happened, and then it erupted. We [Emery Brown and Holden Crescionie] looked each other in the eye when it happened. It was amazing.”

Teachers Strike Back Again
The team who won the Pro League was Teachers Strike Back Again.
  • Coach Bennett
  • Coach Wes Witherspoon
  • Mrs. Coach Whitley
  • Mr. Coach Whitley
  • Meg the Trainer
  • Coach Williams
Coach Bennett was very confident in her team, saying, “We would beat anyone in that gym... It was really fun. It was fun to get to play with people I coach with. And usually, I don’t get to play, so it was fun to get to play.”

Next year, hopefully there will be another tournament. Sully of team Ridgeway has already said that they will be “running it back” with the same team,  and Coach Bennett said, “Yes, most likely. As long as I have my whole team.”

Come out again next year and support, or compete, with your fellow Warriors!
