The WGHS Warriors volleyball team went up against Creekview and East Forsyth on Tuesday August 22, 2023, winning against Creekview, 2-1.
Creekview, a team coming off a slow start with an overall win-loss ratio of 3-9, faced our WGHS volleyball team. Even with a losing record, Creekview still put up a decent game. In the first set, WGHS had 25 points, in the second it was 26, and in the third and final set, they scored 15 (MaxPreps). WGHS also went up against East Forsyth a few minutes after the game with Creekview. However, they lost to East Forsyth Broncos, losing 1-2 in sets. The Warriors won the first set of the game on Tuesday, but the Broncos ended up winning the second and third set scoring them the win. The Warriors walked away with 1 win and 1 loss that day, with their win-loss ratio now being 10-6. Lilykay Studdard, a sophomore, was asked about how they can get better from the game. She stated, “We can improve our attitude and negativity because when we start losing, we just keep losing”. Negative emotion can change the game from better to worse. WGHS Junior, Inaya Spencer, had a lot to say about the loss to East Forsyth. “Honestly, we were really tired. The school is two hours away and it was very hot on the bus. It was so hot we felt like crying. Everyone was also really exhausted from school. The team we played wasn’t really that challenging, so we could’ve beat them.” When asked a follow up question about the team's practice, she says, “The team puts in a lot of effort, everybody has their own part because we all play different positions, so it’s different amounts of effort. All together, we all practice very hard.” When asked about how she gets prepared for games, especially on hot bus rides there, Lena Battenfield stated “I listen to music” and when asked if any chants or phrases are used by the team during the games she stated “We have our own cheers like chick chick boom.” WGHS volleyball team looks to break this tie with their next game being at home on Tuesday vs Bethlehem Christian Academy whose overall win ratio is 3-2.
