Just That Kinda Year, the 2022-2023 yearbook, is now in the hands of the student body. Books were distributed to Seniors on Friday, May 5, and underclassmen on Monday, May 8, during all lunches in the school cafeteria.
Jessie Fallen, one of the two senior editors, explained the overarching idea behind the title and theme of this year’s book. “It [was] kind of like a pride book in a way. It was to say that we are having a really good year and that we always have a really good year because we’re Warriors.” While the title was meant to come across as nonchalant, the inside look of the book was anything but. Hunter Parker, the other senior editor, revealed that “our main goal was to have people look at the spreads and be surprised that we even attempted each new look.” Fallen then went on to name some of the key differences that made this publication stand out from previous years. “We took a lot more risks . . . I honestly feel like the photography was upped this year, [and] the layouts were done differently. Normally, we don’t do a full spread [dominant] photo, but this year, we did.” Meaning, the main, or biggest, photo of the spread spanned the entirety of the two pages as a background. In fact, one of the students whom we interviewed about the book, Senior Jackson Davis, commented on that exact layout. “I liked the picture pages when you opened it up and it wasn’t just a block. I liked the colors and the spacing on those,” said Davis. He then went on to praise the book as a whole. “It looked bigger and more ambitious. I got the book last year, [and this one] looks different. It's more artsy; there’s more style.” Sophomore Shannon Hayes showed interest in a newer addition to the book as well. “I liked all of the one-page interviews,” she began. “They were just really in-depth, and I guess it added a perk to being a senior.” The pages about which she was speaking were the senior spotlights. For those, seniors were able to fill out a Google form stating why they believed they were good candidates to be highlighted, and yearbook staff read through the applications and made selections. The students chosen were as follows: Brody Sinko, Jasmine Morales, Zanna Nguyen, Hayley Knight, William Hollingsworth, Jordan Jones, Endia Phillips, and Kristopher Simon. Hayes was also sure to say that “[she] liked how many pictures there were. There was a lot to look at on every page, [and she] spent a lot of time on each one.” With this year’s book now released, the yearbook staff is already putting together new ideas and designs for next year’s publication through their end-of-the-year project. If you are interested in purchasing a book next year, please be sure to buy it online early in the school year to ensure there will be enough copies.
