On May 11th Youth Leadership Walton held an orientation at the Walton County Schools Annex Building to introduce and inform new members about the program and its responsibilities.
by Jordan Wolff
A member, Tyra Pearson, a sophomore at WGHS, spoke on the orientation as “very informative”. Pearson gave a brief overview of what happened at the orientation saying, “They talked to us about a lot of dates for the future [and] then we got to socialize with some of the people there to start to know each other.” Pearson believes that through Youth Leadership Walton she “can improve [her] leadership skills and [her]self as a leader.” When questioned about why she joined YLW she said, “I feel like it would look better on my resume if I have leadership programs [I’ve] attended.”
Similarly, another sophomore, Thomas Butler, thought the orientation was “a lot of fun”. Butler expressed his feelings about being in YLW stating, “I feel good knowing I’m a part of Youth Leadership Walton and I’m excited for what’s next.” When asked why he joined YLW Butler disclosed that “it looks good on [his] resume and helps build leadership skills [he] can use in the future." Youth Leadership Walton is a program created to improve participants’ personal leadership and provide experiences that increase participants' awareness and involvement in the community around them. These experiences allow participants to help shape and direct Walton County toward a bright future (waltonchamber.org). The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
